RBS pays £26m to settle US subprime inquiry

ROYAL Bank of Scotland has agreed to pay $42 million (£26m) to the US state of Nevada to settle an investigation into subprime mortgages.

Nevada was one of the states worst hit by the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

RBS was dragged into a two-year investigation into whether lenders Countrywide and Option One misrepresented its mortgages because it securitised the loans and sold them on to investors.
