The US firm said international sales rose 20% to £5.8bn but net income was down 45% to £61.6m due to investment in its distribution network and its Kindle devices.
Its touch-screen tablet computer, the Kindle Fire, was the best-selling item with electronic book sales up 70% on the previous year. Sales in the current quarter are predicted to be between £9.5bn to £10.5bn.
