TENNENT'S Lager owner C&C Group has been mulling whether to link up with a partner to make an all-cash bid for Spirit Pub Company.

C&C made a surprise approach to Spirit on Thursday, days after the pub giant backed a revised proposal from Greene King.

Spirit rebuffed the C&C approach, but the drinks firm outlined the benefits of a deal the next morning, stating it would offer a route to market for its brands in England and Wales.

Now C&C, whose approach was understood to be to offer shareholders more cash than the Green King proposal, may join forces with a partner for an all-cash bid, The Sunday Times reports.
