TWO Scottish public relations companies have come together in a moved hailed as a "step change" for the industry in Scotland.

Edinburgh-based Pagoda PR has acquired CM Porter Novelli to create what is believed to be one of Scotland's top three independent agencies.

Based in Edinburgh, at the offices of Pagoda on Eyre Place, Pagoda Porter Novelli will employ a team of 20 staff. It will led by CM Porter Novelli's Angela Casey as managing director. Ms Casey has had a long career in PR and public relations in Scotland, Westminster and Brussels.

Ian Coldwell, formerly managing director of Pagoda PR, has been appointed deputy chairman, focusing on strategy and sector expansion.

The senior team also includes CM Porter Novelli director Ann McMunn, who has taken the post of associate director.

The new company, whose clients include The Crown Estate, will continue to have an affiliation with the global Porter Novelli, giving it access to an international office network.

Ms Casey said: "The launch of our new business represents a real step-change for the PR and public relations industry in Scotland and the UK.

"We're bringing together a core team of highly-skilled, ambitious practitioners with a vision to be recognised as the most respected and successful agency in Scotland."

Mr Coldwell said: "This acquisition not only broadens our pool of expertise, but also gives us the scale to take on larger projects, and we have ambitious plans for future growth."
