RECRUITMENT company s1 jobs has held its first ever Scottish Energy Careers Festival in Glasgow.

The firm drew more than 800 professionals to the fair, held at 200 St Vincent Street, where they met executives from industry players such as Doosan Babcock, National Oilwell Varco, Oil States, Clyde Union/SPX, Clough & Booth Welsh, Cloudreach and Natural Power.

A number of seminars were held throughout the day, allowing delegates to take part in sessions which highlighted how to make the most of their skills, qualifications and experience.

Angela Leonard of Cloudreach Europe said: "We were proud to support the s1 energy careers festival as a Silver Exhibitor.

"The event provided a great opportunity to exhibit what we do as a company, and deliver two presentations throughout the day to delegates."

The energy careers festival was the first of many similar events which s1 intends to host for a range of employment sectors in 2015.

Gavin Mochan, sales director at s1, said: "At s1 we knew clients and candidates had an appetite to do more than just receive an introduction via an online application.

"It is why we created the Energy Careers Festival.

"We wanted to create an event which was based around quality conversations which only an intimate event could create.

"Today we have just over 800 engineer and IT professionals, a modest amount for a physical fair, having one to one conversations with eight of the industry's biggest and best employers."

Yesterday's event was supported by Scottish Renewables.

It was sponsored by Escape Recruitment.

Escape's Paul Leishman said: "We were proud to sponsor s1 jobs' first energy careers event.

"The turnout was amazing and the feedback from all involved was extremely positive," he added.

Other exhibitors highlighted the importance of the event to their businesses.

John Greene from SPX said "It was great to be involved in this event, to meet potential candidates for a wide range of delegates who are interested in working in our industry."

David Raphael of Natural Power said: "It's been great to be involved with this event and have the opportunity to speak to candidates that are local to our office in Dumfries and Galloway and Stirling. We have a number of live vacancies on our website and we look forward to hearing from the delegates who attended the event."

Oil States' Neville Gall said: "What's impressed me at this event is the high interest in the oil and gas industry and the number of people who have off-shore survival certificates.

"There was a never-ending queue at our exhibit stand and there was certainly people I met that would be contenders for current vacancies and future job opportunities with us. One of the good things about these events is that delegates are well motivated in actively pursuing job opportunities. And that is the kind of people we are looking for."

Matt Russell of National Oilwell Varco said: "This event was very well attended with a mixture of experiences, with good positive results for engineering candidates.

"I think the space in the venue was awesome and the idea of having one to one meetings worked great for us.

"In fact our very first candidate of the day ticked all the boxes for us."

Eileen Pender from Clough, the Australian company which recently acquired Ayrshire's Booth Welsh, said: "Following the recent announcement of the partnership with Clough and Booth Welsh, we felt this event provided an excellent opportunity to jointly promote our brands and available job opportunities at what is an exciting time for our business growth plans."
