LAW firm Aberdein Considine has confirmed the opening of its second office in the Scottish capital this year.

The litigation-focused centre follows on from a property and estate agency site which launched from premises on Edinburgh's Lothian Road in April.

The latest office, in the city's Exchange Tower on Canning Street, will be home to lawyers working in dispute resolution, employment, debt recovery, insolvency, professional negligence and personal injury.

Rob Aberdein, senior partner, will lead the office and hopes to add to the initial six solicitors and two support staff there.

The firm's managing partner Harvey Aberdein said the second site in Edinburgh was a natural progression.

He said: "Our dispute resolution team is one of the fastest growing in the country and has for some time been looking for a base in Edinburgh.

"Recent client wins and the general volume of business handled by our ever expanding team of litigation lawyers meant it was inevitable that we would open a legal office in Edinburgh as a base for central belt sheriff courts and the Court of Session.

Mr Aberdein also indicated that the firm hoped to grow its corporate, commercial property, family, wealth management and criminal defence areas from Edinburgh.

He said: "Despite the fact that our litigators are 'leading the charge' we have ambitious plans.

"The Exchange Tower site offers significant capacity for such expansion.

"We are actively looking at lateral hires and are keen to speak to niche law firms or teams of lawyers who could potentially add something different to our already diverse legal offering.

"We see the Edinburgh legal market as one which would be receptive to our different approach to providing legal advice and court representation."

As well as the two offices in Edinburgh, Aberdein Considine, which was founded in 1981, has opened bases in Glasgow, Livingston and Bathgate in the past 12 months, taking its total number of locations to 17.

The firm has a turnover in excess of £17 million.
