Mr Welch, who became a tyre-fitter after leaving school, established the business in Peebles in 2001 having previously worked for Sir Tom Farmer's Kwik-Fit until it was acquired by Ford.

Black Circle's chairman is Graeme Bissett, a former senior partner with accountant Arthur Andersen who became finance director of Kwik-Fit for three years before its takeover.
