STAGECOACH has reported year-on-year growth in revenues across its UK bus and rail and North American operations for the first 40 weeks of its financial year and declared that its overall profitability has remained satisfactory.

The Perth-based company said revenues in its UK bus operations, outside London, were in the 40 weeks to February 1 up by 2.7 per cent on the same period of the prior financial year. Revenues in Stagecoach's own UK rail business over this period were up by 7.6 per cent year-on-year, with London bus operations showing a 9.8 per cent rise.

In Stagecoach's Virgin Rail joint venture, revenues in the 40 weeks to February 1 were up by 6.7 per cent on the same period of the prior financial year.

Stagecoach's North American operations, including Megabus.com, showed a 1.9 per cent year-on-year rise in revenues in the nine months to January 31.

Shares in Stagecoach were up by 4.2p at 341.8p in late morning trading.
