INSURANCE broker Swinton Group has opened its first commercial office in Scotland, following the acquisition of Kirkintilloch Insurance Services.

Established in 1967, Kirkintilloch Insurance Services has gross written premiums of £1.75m.

Swinton is the UK's largest high street insurance retailer with 553 commercial and personal outlets nationwide, and Swinton Commercial has 33 offices across the UK and Northern Ireland.

The new Kirkintilloch operation will be the first Swinton office in Scotland to offer dedicated commercial lines services.

The acquisition forms part of the company's strategy to expand the reach of its commercial division, developing its UK local broker proposition.

As part of the deal, Swinton will lease the current premises from Glasgow-born entrepreneur Bill Paterson as he moves into retirement at the age of 76.

Kirkintilloch Insurance Services' staff have been retained and Steve Anderson has been appointed as commercial centre manager.
