SPIRIT Pub Company has rejected a surprise takeover approach from C&C Group, the Dublin-based owner of Tennent's Lager.
The pub giant, which runs some 1200 outlets around the UK, said its board had considered the proposal and rejected it.
It leaves Belhaven owner Greene King in the driving seat to acquire the business.
