PORRIDGE-MAKER Stoats is predicting a boost in turnover after securing a listing in 116 Tesco stores across Scotland.

The Edinburgh business will see its porridge bars, boxes of oats and instant pots stocked by the supermarket giant.

Tony Stone, co-founder of Stoats, said: "We're absolutely delighted with the listing and the fact that Tesco have committed to taking the full range of our products has made a massive difference to the size of this account.

"We anticipate that this listing will add around 20% on to the turnover of Stoats so they will become one of our key accounts."

Stoats was already stocked by garden centre chain Dobbies, which is owned by Tesco.

Ashley Connolly, local buying manager at Tesco, said: "We pride ourselves on sourcing top quality, locally produced food and drink and are delighted to be launching the Stoats range in Tesco stores across the country.

"Over the past few years, we've seen a significant growth in the sales of porridge and I'm sure the delicious flavour combinations offered by Stoats will be popular with our customers."

Mr Stone said Stoats had set out to increase its distribution through multiple retailers this year.

Already, it has achieved a UK-wide listing in 100 Waitrose outlets and Mr Stone described that contract as "doing really well".

In addition, Stoats has Scottish and Northern Irish coverage with Asda and is stocked in Scotmid and Sainsbury's stores across Scotland.

Mr Stone said: "The business has really grown this year. This recent cold spell has seen a nice spike in porridge sales."

Mr Stone expects turnover in the 12 months to the end of April 2014 to be around £1.4 million.

Stoats, which employs eight full-time staff, was founded in 2005 by Mr Stone and friend Bob Arnott.

They began by selling fresh porridge from a converted hot-dog trailer at music festivals and other events before developing a retail range.
