JOHN Maltby has stepped down as chief executive of Williams & Glyn, the challenger bank Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is planning to float in 2016.

Mr Maltby, who returns to his role as advisor to the external advisors' consortium, will be replaced by Jim Brown, currently chief executive of Ulster Bank.

RBS moving towards an initial public offering (IPO) for Williams & Glyn in the second half of 2016.

It will have about 314 branches, largely in England and Wales,1.4 million retail customers and 200,000 small business customers.
