SCOTTISH oil services giant Wood Group's PSN business has won a contract extension worth (AUS)$45 million (£31m) to provide maintenance services to refineries in Brisbane and Sydney.

The 18-month extension of the contract, to provide maintenance management, mechanical and support services at the Lytton refinery in Brisbane and the Kurnell site in Sydney, has been awarded by Caltex Australia. Wood Group PSN employs more than 200 people at these sites.

The extension is effective from June this year. The Wood Group PSN operation was first awarded a three-year contract to service these refineries in 2010.

Matt Gavin, Australia and Asia-Pacific managing director of Wood Group PSN, said: "We have been able to deliver tangible maintenance performance improvements across both refineries since this contract was awarded, and this extension is testament to Caltex's confidence in WGPSN."

He added: "Our key successes on this contract include a marked reduction in the backlog of maintenance work, significant improvement in maintenance compliance, and a pleasing increase in scheduled work delivery.

"This has translated to improved reliability and performance at both sites and will hopefully help Caltex achieve its goal of becoming a top-quartile performer for maintenance and reliability when compared to other refineries in the Asia Pacific region."

Gary Smith, general manager of refining and supply at Caltex, said Wood Group PSN had been an "important partner in driving improved safety outcomes at both locations".

Shares in Wood Group dipped 3.5p to 837p yesterday.
