WHYTE & Mackay owner Emperador has paid €275 million to buy several brandy and sherry brands from Beam Suntory.

The deal include the Fundador, Harveys, Terry and Tres Cepas brands as wells as production operations in Spain.

Steve Fechheimer, head of strategy and corporate development at Beam Suntory, said: “A recent review of our portfolio of brands and supply chain footprint led us to believe that our Spain-based brandy and sherry business could be of greater value to another company.”

Beam Suntory owns brands including Scotch whiskies such as Teacher’s, Laphroaig, and Bowmore, Courvoisier cognac, Midori liqueur and Jim Beam bourbon.

Philippines based Emperador, the world’s largest brandy company, paid £430m for Whyte & Mackay in October last year.
