GREENOCK Ocean Terminal expects to double its business in the next five years following the opening of a £400 million ‘sister’ terminal in Liverpool.

Peel Ports said the Inverclyde facility will serve as a feeder hub for Liverpool2, which is now able handle “mega” ocean container ships.

Andrew Hemphill, of Peel Ports’ Clydeport, said: “The opening of Liverpool2 has transformed the playing field for us, bringing deep-sea connections much closer to Scotland and we are now in a unique position thanks to our Irish Sea hubs.

“It is a more commercially viable, sustainable way to move goods around by sea.”
