AN Ayrshire Information Technology firm has bought a cloud computing specialist in a deal it expects will allow it to grow turnover by a third.

Kilmarnock-based Microtech acquired the Network Services division of Yorkshire’s Egton Medical Information Systems for an undisclosed sum.

Managing director Chris McMail said the acquisition will further strengthen Microtech’s service offering to new and existing clients.

ENS will bring additional skills and expertise in the datacentre environment which will help with the company’s cloud strategy.

The business has strong ties in the retail and hospitality industry. Its client base includes multi-nationals and single site operations.

Microtech said it expects the acquisition will allow the group to increase turnover to £8 million in 2018, from £6m.

Four employees will join Microtech from the networks business, taking total workforce numbers to 79.

Microtech said the takeover forms part of its ongoing acquisition strategy.

In 2015 the group moved into digital marketing with the acquisition of the Paligap Brands agency.

It also bought e-health specialist Telehealth Solutions, which provides technology people can use to monitor their condition.

Demand for cloud computing and data centre services has increased as companies have looked to reduce the money they invest in hardware systems and licences for software that may need to be updated regularly.
