Local lad is in the fast lane to land key role at NatSemi

Gerry McCarthy, the recently appointed managing director of National Semiconductor’s key Scottish operation, has come a long way – even though he was born just a few miles from where he now sits at his desk, gazing across the River Clyde at heavy dark clouds above verdant mountains in Argyll.

The Inverclyde native, who was promoted to head NatSemi’s successful manufacturing plant in Greenock in July, is now being touted by the US technology giant as the first local man to be appointed managing director of the company’s all-important UK operation.
