Trinity Mirror pays £45m for regional titles

Trinity Mirror has paid £45 million to snap up the regional newspaper empire of Guardian Media Group and expand its reach further into the UK’s local media.

Guardian Media Group, which publishes The Guardian and The Observer with accountability to the Scott Trust, has faced increasing losses as newsprint advertising has slumped and circulations have fallen, prompting widespread speculation about the Sunday title’s future.
