John Swan Ltd sold 57 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p per kg and an average of 221.9p (-0.6p on the week), while 32 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 220.7p (-3.6p). Six prime bulls sold to 210p and averaged 175.8p (+4.3p).

In the rough ring 29 beef cows averaged 131.6p (-7.3p).

The firm also sold 2063 prime lambs to a top of £82 per head and 181p per kg to average 149p (-7.3p).

The 408 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £92 for a Suffolk and average £72.65 while light ewes peaked at £63 for Blackfaces and levelled at £54.99.

Wallets Marts had no store cattle forward at their fortnightly sale in Castle Douglas yesterday, but did sell 48 beef cows in the rough ring to average 124p, while 6 dairy cows levelled at 93p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1451 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £84 and 174.9p to average 148.2p (-4.9p).

The firm also had 488 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £117 for a Charollais and £58 for a pen of Blackfaces.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 247p and an average of 230.1p (-3.1p), while 20 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 208.1p (-8.1p). Thirteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 163p and averaged 154.8p (-4.1p).

In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 128.2p (-1.1p) and 59 dairy cows levelled at 97.9p (-4.4p). Five bulls averaged 106.7p.

The firm also sold 1309 prime lambs to a top of £75.50 and 178.1p to average 153.3p (-2.2p).

The 671 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £117.50 for a Texel and £69.50 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 232.5p and an average of 210.3p (no change), while 31 prime bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 206.7p (-8.1p).

Forty-two prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 210.5p and averaged 184.9p (-13.7p), while 74 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 176.5p and levelled at 139.9p (-9.8p).

In the rough ring 137 beef cows averaged 133.2p (-6.5p) and 290 dairy cows levelled at 93.1p (-13.7p). Sixteen bulls averaged 115.9p (-22.4p).

The firm also sold 2298 prime lambs to a top of £87.80 and 191.1p to average 152.1p (-9.6p).

A small show of 148 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £96 for Texels and £41 for Swaledales.
