Wallets Marts sold 1658 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £78 per head and 181.4p per kg to average 150.9p (-2.7p on the week).
The firm also had 182 cast sheep forward that were cheaper on the week, especially fat and plain types. Topping the day's trade was a Texel ram that fetched £113, while ewes peaked at £65 for Greyfaces and £63 for Blackfaces.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 20 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1391.50 per head and 235p per kg to average £1246.51 and 214p, while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1510 and 206p to level at £1194.93 and 188.9p. Five prime, B&W bullocks averaged £954.66 and 146.7p, while 2 prime bulls levelled at £1204.30 and 199p.
In the rough ring 86 beef cows averaged 133p and 196 dairy cows levelled at 91.4p. Ten bulls averaged 122.3p.
The firm also sold 14 dairy cattle to a top of £1400 for a Holstein Friesian and an average of £1152.
