The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 92 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 263.9p per kg and an average of 207.9p (-11.7p on the previous sale), while 95 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 320p and levelled at 228.1p (+0.6p). Ten store, B&W bullocks sold to 172.2p and averaged 162p.
John Swan Ltd sold 50 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 226.8p (no change), while 13 prime bullocks peaked at 248p and levelled at 219p (+2.3p).
In the rough ring 31 beef-type cows averaged 117.4p (-1.4p).
The firm also sold 2318 prime lambs to a top of £83 per head and 165p per kg to average £62.82 and 149p (-5p).
The 619 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £112 for a Texel and average £61.37, while light ewes peaked at £90 for Cheviots and levelled at £51.71.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 6 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 228.5p and an average of 200p (-16p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231.5p and levelled at 191.7p (-3.6p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks peaked at 165.5p and levelled at 148.3p (-13p). Forty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 221.5p and averaged 176.7p (+8.1p), while 24 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 171.5p and levelled at 141.4p (+4.3p).
In the rough ring 103 beef cows averaged 128.6p (+0.5p) and 182 dairy cows levelled at 89.7p (-2.6p). Fourteen bulls averaged 109.4p (+0.1p).
The firm also sold 2250 prime lambs to a top of £93.80 and 202.1p to average 153.9p (-4.2p).
The 227 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £99 for Texels and £78 for Hill Cheviots.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2378 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £85 and 178.6p to average 146.7p (-8.3p).
There were also 842 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £129.50 for Texels and £61 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £55.72 (-£6.14).
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 16 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 247.6p (+1.2p), while 5 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 197.5p and levelled at 194.6p (-8.1p). Nine prime, B&W bullocks sold to 170.5p and averaged 147.9p (+4.7p).
In the rough ring 54 beef cows averaged 124.6p (-1.4p) and 65 dairy cows levelled at 105p (no change).
The firm also sold 2268 prime lambs to a top of £78 and 190p to average 150.6p (-4p).
The 779 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £128.50 for a Texel and £63.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £56.67 (-£8.10).
