United Auctions sold 5975 store lambs at Stirling on Monday. Top prices and averages for selected breeds: Suffolks to £59.50 and averaged £54.87 (-20p on the week); Texels £64 and £53.57 (+89p); Mules £53 and £47.93 (+30p); Blackfaces £39 and £36.91 (+£2.55).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2354 prime lambs at Ayr on Monday to a top of £80 per head and 177.1p per kg to average 143.6p (-3.1p).
The 445 cast sheep forward were slightly easier than last week with ewes selling to £131.50 for Texels and £64.50 for Blackfaces.
The firm went on to sell 11 prime heifers at the same venue yesterday to a top of £1361.65 per head and 241p per kg to average £1209.30 and 223.8p, while 10 prime bullocks peaked at £1424 and 225p to level at £1265.22 and 193.3p. Four prime bulls sold to £1134 and 189p to average £1045.59 and 171.7p.
In the rough ring 43 beef cows averaged 123.6p and 112 dairy cows levelled at 86.6p. Six bulls averaged 125.6p.
A larger show of 23 dairy cattle sold to £1420 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1098.
