United Auctions sold 10,030 breeding sheep at their annual sale at Stirling on Saturday. Averages: Accredited Scotch Mule ewe lambs £88.21 (-£9.52 on the year); non-accredited Scotch Mule ewe lambs £87.82 (-£4.12); accredited Blackface ewe lambs £57.61 (-£14.29); non-accredited Blackface ewe lambs £64.52 (+£5.90).

Wallets Marts sold 2692 Blackface ewe lambs at their annual sale in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £145 for a pen off JW Kay&Co, Gass, Straiton to average £74.36 (-£7.51).

There were also 392 store lambs that sold to £58 for Texels and averaged £50.49 overall.

John Swan Ltd sold 51 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 251p per kg and an average of 219.9p (-1.3p on the week), while 16 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 215.3p (-0.3p). Four prime bulls sold to 230p and averaged 160.4p.

In the rough ring 41 beef-type cows averaged 126.7p (+2.4p).

The firm also sold 3083 prime lambs to a top of £85 per head and 186p per kg to average £65.86 and 150p (+3p).

The 1265 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £107 for Texels and average £52.20, while light ewes peaked at £70 for Cheviots and levelled at £39.83.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 32 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 245.5p and an average of 199.6p (-10.7p), while 32 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 234.5p and levelled at 196p (-6.8p).

Five prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 153.5p and averaged 148.3p (-16.2p).

Thirty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 221.5p and averaged 181.1p (+4.9p), while 35 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 140.7p (-2.9p).

In the rough ring 78 beef cows averaged 129.2p (-2.1p) and 191 dairy cows levelled at 92p (+1.1p).

Six bulls averaged 134.8p (+10.8p).

The firm also sold 3571 prime lambs to a top of £87.30 and 204.4p to average 158p (+4.5p).

The 335 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £120 for Texels and average £64.82, while light ewes peaked at £50 for Jacobs and levelled at £33.69.
