Wallets Marts had 1871 breeding sheep forward in Castle Douglas yesterday when 1586 ewe lambs sold to £110 for a pen of Texels and £98 (twice) for Scotch Mules to average £82.38 (-£1 on the year). There were also 285 Scotch Mule and Texel gimmers that peaked at £130 on three occasions and levelled at £114.57.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 158 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 258p per kg and an average of 202.7p (+5p on the fortnight), while 207 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 256.3p and levelled at 210.6p (-5.1p). Sixty store, B&W bullocks sold to 188.3p and averaged 147.6p (-8.4p), while 9 store bulls peaked at 206p and levelled at 195.8p.

John Swan Ltd sold 37 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 251p and an average of 225.2p (+1.1p on the week), while 25 prime bullocks peaked at 242p and levelled at 214.9p (-6p). Three prime bulls sold to 220p and averaged 205.4p.

In the rough ring 58 beef cows averaged 132.1p (+4.2p).

The firm also sold 2855 prime lambs to a top of £84 per head and 187.2p to average £65.61 and 149.2p (no change). There were also 1167 ram lambs forward to fulfil demand for the Muslim festival of Eid-al-Adha that sold to £74 and 170.3p to average 145.7p.

The 1398 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £111 for Texels and average £64.50, while light ewes peaked at £71 for Lleyns and levelled at £42.15.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 232.5p and an average of 203.7p (+24.6p), while 19 prime bullocks peaked at 219.5p and levelled at 203.3p (+6.8p). Thirty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 218.5p and averaged 185.3p (+6.2p), while 46 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 181.5p and levelled at 142.1p (+1.6p).

In the rough ring 111 beef cows averaged 127.6p (-9.2p) and 251 dairy cows levelled at 91.8p (+0.2p). Nine bulls averaged 101.3p (-33.6p).

The firm also sold 3573 prime lambs to a top of £88.80 and 209.7p to average 152.2p (+0.3p).

The 237 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £93 for Texels and average £65.72, while light ewes peaked at £50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £33.53.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 230.6p (-4.6p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 201.5p (-5.2p). Twelve prime, B&W bullocks sold to 152.5p and averaged 146.4p (-4.1p).

In the rough ring 64 beef cows averaged 120.1p (-6.2p) and 65 dairy cows levelled at 89.3p (-5.1p). Four bulls averaged 105.6p.
