United Auctions had a catalogued entry of 8594 at their annual sale of Blackface and Cheviot draft ewes, gimmers and stock ewes at Stirling on Saturday when a mart record of £1350 per head was set by a pen of 4 Blackface gimmers consigned by Messrs Blackwood, Auldhouseburn.

Top prices and averages: Accredited BF ewes to £110 and averaged £74.03 (-£5.72 on the year); non-accredited BF ewes £350 and £60.80 (-£11.66); Cheviot ewes £85 and £67.34 (-£15.04); Acc BF gimmers £115 and £79.94 (-£76.29); non-acc BF gimmers £1350 and £96.86 (-£36.02); Cheviot gimmers £132 and £79.97 (-£41.03).

Wallets Marts sold 12 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1105 per head and 202p per kg to average £875 and 200p (-7.6p on the fortnight), while 52 store bullocks peaked at £1180 and 230.5p to level at £1056 and 212.6p (-5p).

John Swan Ltd sold 54 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 220p (-5.2p on the week), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 252p and levelled at 219.6p (+4.7p). Four prime bulls sold to 217p and averaged 191.6p.

In the rough ring 46 beef cows averaged 120.2p (no change) and 5 dairy cows levelled at 98.3p.

The firm also had 2528 prime lambs forward that proved harder to cash with the Muslin festival of Eid-Al-Adha having finished at the weekend. Top prices on the day were £85 per head and 186p per kg with the final averages levelling at £61.69 and 140p (-9p).

The 852 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for Suffolks and average £55.05, while light ewes peaked at 352 for Blackfaces and levelled at £36.12.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 12 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 230.5p and an average of 193.4p (-10.3p), while 15 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 225.5p and levelled at 186.2p (-17.2p). Five prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 159.5p and averaged 151.5p. Twenty-six prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 178p (-7.3p), while 48 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 142.7p (+0.6p).

In the rough ring 123 beef cows averaged 122.7p (-4.9p) and 263 dairy cows levelled at 84.9p (-6.9p). Eight bulls averaged 121.4p (+20.1p).

The firm also sold 2970 prime lambs to a top of £86.80 and 204p to average 139.1p (-13p).

The 183 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £70 for Texels.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2077 prime lambs at Ayr to a top of £80 and 174.4p to average 134.9p (-9.1p).

The 875 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £102.50 for Texels and £56.50 for Blackfaces.
