Lawrie & Symington sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 251p per kg and an average of 232.7p (+2.1p on the week), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 231p to level at 219.2p (+5.2p). Seventeen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 147.5p and averaged 146.8p (+0.4p).

In the rough ring 42 beef cows averaged 125.5p (+4.9p) and 41 dairy cows levelled at 92.6p (+3.1p). Five bulls averaged 108.1p (+3.2p).

The firm also sold 3142 prime lambs to a top of £81 per head and 188.4p per kg to average 138.4p (-12.4p).

This is the time of year when there is a large number of ewes coming forward and all markets were recording large shows this week.

A big show of 1138 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £132.50 for Texels and £40.46 for Blackfaces.

There were also 36 dairy cattle forward that sold to £2499 for a Holstein heifer and averaged £1367.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 15 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1302 per head and 228p per kg to average £1129.70 and 211.7p, while a couple of prime bulls averaged £863.35 and 154.2p.

In the rough ring 132 dairy cows averaged 86.2p and 48 beef cows levelled at 126.5p. Seven bulls averaged 115.6p.

There were also 15 dairy cattle forward that sold to £1550 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1280 (+£179 on the week).

Wallets Marts sold 1493 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £78 and 164.1p to average 141.6p (-6.1p).

There were also 725 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £84 for Texels and £47.50 (thrice) for Blackfaces.
