Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 151 store heifers at Ayr on Thursday to a top of £1240 per head and 233.5p per kg to average £830.83 and 202.8p (-6.7p on the week), while 157 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1340 and 231.6p to level at £927.33 and 208.9p (-4.1p). Twenty-six store, B&W bullocks sold to £840 and 148.5p to average £729.23 and 141.2p (-7.4p).

The firm also sold 1140 store lambs to a top of £60.50 for Beltex, £55 for Texels and Suffolks, £54.50 for Mules and £49 for Blackfaces with the overall average easier on the week at £48.46.

John Swan Ltd had 1193 head of native-bred suckled calves forward at their annual show and sale in St Boswells on Thursday when heifers sold to £1230 and 277.7p to average £930 and 207p (+5p on the year), while bullocks peaked at £1450 and 261.9p to level at £1051.46 and 218p (-6p).

The firm also sold 3818 store and breeding sheep. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Texels to £62 and averaged £57.57 for 1197; Suffolks £60 and £58.43 for 455; Cheviots £60 and £56.70 for 1248.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had a smaller show of 2715 prime lambs forward at their weekly sale in Longtown on Thursday that sold to a top of £128 per head and 197p per kg to average 147.7p (+2.3p on the week).

There was also a smaller show of 3382 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £117 for Texels and averaged £65.77 (+£3.37), while light ewes peaked at £66 for Cheviots and levelled at £39.61 (-50p). Rams sold to £138 for a Suffolk and averaged £60.88.
