Wallets Marts sold 54 store heifers in Castle Douglas on Monday to a top of £1100 per head and 210p per kg to average £760 and 184.1p, while 73 store bullocks peaked at £1020 and 220p to level at £770 and 180p.

The firm went on to sell 1225 prime lambs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £80 per head and 171.4p per kg to average 154.9p.

There were also 550 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £71 for Cheviot Mules and £54 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold a couple of prime heifers at Ayr yesterday that both fetched 228p per kg.

In the rough ring 137 beef cows averaged 95.7p and 196 dairy cows levelled at 71.4p. Seven bulls averaged 86.8p.

The firm also had 45 dairy cattle forward at their November show and sale of Friesian/Holsteins and Ayrshires. The champion animal in the yard was a Friesian heifer from George Borland & Son that went on to realise 1500gns. The first prize Ayrshire heifer was shown by Messrs Stevenson, Kirminnoch and fetched 1080gns. Pedigree Friesians averaged £1391.25, while commercial dairy cattle sold to £1820 and averaged £1028.
