Lawrie & Symington Ltd held their Christmas show and sale of prime lambs in Lanark yesterday when they had 394 presented for judging. The championship was awarded to R&M Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke for a pen of 3 Texel crosses that weighed 46kg and went on to sell for £155, while the reserve ticket went to K O'Conner, Moss Road, Carstairs for three Beltex that scaled 39kg and fetched £84.
In the Blackface section the best pen of 10 weighing 40kg or less was won by P Smith & Son, Cloverhill, while the best pen of 10 weighing more than 40kg was shown by HF Hamilton & Co, Glenmanna.
The 1954 prime lambs to go under the hammer averaged 150.2p (no change on the week).
The firm also sold 12 prime heifers to a top of 246p per kg and an average of 233.2p, while 11 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 212.3p. Thirteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 133.5p and averaged 132.5p.
In the rough ring 27 beef cows averaged 98.5p (-9.1p on the week) and 45 dairy cows levelled at 70.4p (-7.1p).
