Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1510 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £90 per head and 193.2p per kg to average 164.4p (+2.4p on the week). Lambs were again easily sold, especially good quality, export weights which were in short supply.
There were also 675 cast sheep forward when all classes met a similar trade to last week with ewes selling to £100 for Texels and averaging £54.74 overall. That average included a tremendous show of 486 Blackface ewes that sold to £61.50 and levelled at £50.85.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 16 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 234p per kg and an average of 212.3p (-5.2p), while 15 prime bullocks peaked at 235p and levelled at 214.1p (+4.1p). A couple of prime bulls averaged 149.3p.
In the rough ring 38 beef cows averaged 120.5p (+16.3p).
There were also 2175 prime lambs forward that sold to a top of £94 per head and 244.7p per kg to average £72.86 and 171.5p (+1.5p).
A nice show of 313 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £100 for Suffolk crosses and £76 for Mules to average £69.31 overall.
The firm also sold a couple of prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to average 192p (-10.7p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 209.5p and levelled at 198.9p (+1.8p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks averaged 138p. Eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 207.5p and averaged 185.1p (+2.1p), while 17 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 148.5p and levelled at 136.7p (-3.4p).
In the rough ring 14 beef cows averaged 117.8p (-11.9p) and 64 dairy cows levelled at 77.4p (-11.1p). Three bulls averaged 87.9p (-0.1p).
There were also 2543 prime lambs forward that sold to £98.30 and 229.2p to average 173.7p (+7.3p).
A small show of 57 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £87.50 for Suffolks and £61.50 for Swaledales.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd had no cattle forward at their weekly sale in Lanark yesterday but did sell 2614 prime lambs to a top of £96.20 and 205.6p to average 167.2p (+3.9p).
A big show of 858 cast sheep, that included 225 Blackface ewes, averaged £65.50 overall (+£9.95).
