Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1134 prime hoggs forward at Ayr yesterday, including 442 Blackfaces, that sold to a top of £94 per head and 209.8p per kg to average 167.2p (-1.8p on the week).
The firm also had a nice show of 350 cast sheep when over-fat ewes met a similar trade to last week while leaner types were dearer. Top prices on the day for ewes were £103.50 for a pen of Charolais and £53.50 for Blackfaces, while rams peaked at £87.50 for a pen of Suffolks, and the overall average levelled at £57.94.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 57 prime heifers in St Boswells to a top of 243p per kg and an average of 206.6p (-8p), while 28 prime bullocks peaked at 231p and levelled at 204.3p (-8.9p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 178p and averaged 171p.
In the rough ring 128 beef cows averaged 115.7p (-9p).
There were also 2231 prime hoggs that sold to £95 and 215.8p to average £74.04 and 170.5p (-3.6p).
The 476 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £89 for Texels and average £73.90, while light ewes peaked at £71 for Cheviots and levelled at £50.85.
The firm also sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 237.5p and an average of 189.4p (-1.2p), while 20 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 215.5p and levelled at 178.4p (-6.3p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 146.5p and averaged 145p (-0.3p). Thirty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 221.5p and averaged 179.1p (+10.5p), while 39 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 163.5p and levelled at 139.6p (+8.3p).
In the rough ring 110 beef cows averaged 121.5p (+1.6p) and 213 dairy cows levelled at 85.1p (+5.3p). Eight bulls averaged 114.4p (-5.6p).
The firm also sold 2915 prime hoggs to a top of £94.30 and 233.7p to average 175.2p (+3.3p).
A small show of 183 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £101.50 for Texels and average £60.59, while light ewes peaked at £61.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £35.43.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 14 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 246p and an average of 230.1p (+1p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 209.2p (-5.2p). Fifteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 144.5p and averaged 135.2p (+3.1p).
In the rough ring 14 beef cows averaged 108.5p and 59 dairy cows levelled at 76.1p.
The firm also sold 1818 prime hoggs to a top of £94 and 218.6p to average 171.7p (+0.1p).
The 312 cast sheep forward, that included 98 Blackface ewes, saw ewes sell to £104.50 for a Texel and £61.50 for Blackfaces to average £60.47 overall.
