Wallets Marts sold 897 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £90 per head and 225p per kg to average 180.5p (+6p on the week).
A nice show of 274 cast sheep met a similar trade to last week, although over-fat types struggled. Ewes sold to £104.50 for Beltex and £56 for Blackfaces.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 9 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1368.50 per head and 230p per kg to average £1216.21 and 218.7p, while a couple of prime Galloway bullocks levelled at £1218.88 and 183.3p. Six prime bulls sold to £1362.20 and 206p to average £1179.53 and 180.8p.
In the rough ring 78 beef cows averaged 110.6p and 148 dairy cows levelled at 76.9p. Six bulls averaged 116.7p.
A small offering of 5 dairy cattle sold to a top of £1400 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1150.
