Meurig Raymond, a mixed farmer from Pembrokeshire, will lead the NFU for England and Wales for another two years after defeating Minette Matters' challenge to become the first woman president.

Ms Batters, a livestock farmer from Wiltshire, was re-elected Deputy President, while Guy Smith, a farmer from Essex, was re-elected Vice-President.

United Auctions sold 735 store heifers at Stirling on Wednesday to a top of 262.2p per kg and an average of 204.4p (-10.3p on the week), while 838 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 263.9p and levelled at 214p (-9.7p). Sixty store, B&W bullocks sold to 155.9p and averaged 133.6p (+1.7p), while 105 store bulls peaked at 237.4p and levelled at 212p.

In the rough ring 139 beef cows averaged 116p and 26 dairy cows levelled at 92.3p.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 9 prime heifers in Dumfries on Wednesday to a top of 216.5p and an average of 186.1p.

There were 65 OTM cattle presented in the rough ring when beef cows averaged 108.1p and dairy cows levelled at 80.2p.

The firm also sold 496 prime hoggs to a top of £100 per head and 240p per kg to average 178.1p (no change).

The 374 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £124 for Texels and average £65.12 (-£12.55), while light ewes peaked at £69.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £57.45 (-£5.46).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1133 prime hoggs in Newton Stewart on Wednesday to a top of £101.50 and 213.3p to average 180.9p (+3p).

There were also 264 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £137 for a pen of Texels and £67 for Blackfaces.
