Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 13 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1300 per head and 230p per kg to average £1138 and 208.6p, while 3 prime steers peaked at £1176 and 209p to level at £1125 and 182.1p.

In the rough ring 37 beef cows averaged 128.9p and 138 dairy cows levelled at 86.4p. Six bulls averaged 102.8p.

The firm also had 4 pedigree Holsteins forward at their show and sale when the championship was awarded to a fresh-calved heifer from Messrs Reid, Clauchlands which went on to fetch the top bid of £1260, followed by the second prize heifer from the same home that made £950. The overall average levelled at £958.25 for 4.

In the commercial dairy sector 11 sold to a top of £1050, also a fresh-calved HF heifer, and averaged £832.72.

Wallets Marts sold 956 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £107 per head and 230.8p per kg to average 183.5p (+0.5p on the week).

A small show of 94 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £94.50 for Texels, £76 for Mules and £72 for Blackfaces.
