WALLETS Marts sold 187 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1110 per head and 248.2p per kg to average £832.59 and 214.6p (-2.4p on the fortnight), while 352 store bullocks peaked at £1235 and 269.6p to level at £928.54 and 223.2p (-4.3p). Store cattle were back 7p per kg overall on the corresponding sale last year.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2080 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £108 per head and 227.3p per kg to average 192.8p (+6.6p on the week). Included in that overall average were 844 Blackfaces that peaked at £105 and 203.3p to level at 186.3p.

There were also 531 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £149 for Texels and £76.50 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 60 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 240p and an average of 209.7p (+9.7p), while 38 prime bullocks peaked at 236p and levelled at 191p (no change).

In the rough ring 52 beef cows averaged 120p 9+4p).

There were also 1820 prime hoggs forward that sold to £107 and 229.9p to average £87 and 190.7p (+11p).

The 197 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £110 for a Suffolk and average £89, while light ewes peaked at £81 for Cheviots and levelled at £66.

The firm also sold 17 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 211.5p and an average of 180.8p (-9.1p), while 18 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 205.5p and levelled at 191.9p (+11.7p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 147.5p and averaged 141.8p (+1.2p). Fifteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 199.5p and averaged 170.9p (-5.3p), while 30 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 171.5p and levelled at 138.2p (-6p).

In the rough ring 44 beef cows averaged 127.5p (+9.1p) and 256 dairy cows levelled at 91.3p (+2.8p). Eleven bulls averaged 113p (-10p).

There were also 1940 prime hoggs that sold to £124.50 and 277.8p to average 197.9p (+5.2p).

A small show of 74 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £91.50 for Texels.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 217p (-12.8p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 214p and levelled at 188p (-19p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 134p and averaged 118.5p (-18.6p).

In the rough ring 28 beef cows averaged 118.5p (+0.2p) and 34 dairy cows levelled at 87.1p (-1.5p).

The firm also sold 3229 prime hoggs to a top of £106.50 and 227.9p to average 191.7p (+6.1p).

The 423 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £136.50 for a Texel and £58.50 for Blackfaces.
