Market round-up
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 304 store heifers at Ayr on Thursday to a top of £1105 per head and 229.6p per kg to average £815.97 and 205.4p (+1.5p on the week), while 417 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1295 and 264.2p to level at £914.97 and 225.4p (+16.5p). Sixty-four store, B&W bullocks sold to £870 and 153.1p to average £647.85 and 133.5p (+1.2p).
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had 701 store cattle forward at their fortnightly sale in St Boswells on Thursday when heifers sold to £1100 and 264.9p to average £840 and 211p (+9p on the fortnight), while bullocks peaked at £1040 and 268.6p to level at £930 and 221p (+9.8p).
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 3412 prime hoggs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £124 per head and 318p per kg to average 186p (+0.7p on the week).
There were also 2454 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £144 for Texels and averaged £84.33 (-£6.20), while light ewes peaked at £83 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £54.04 (-£1.18). Rams sold to £144 for a Texel and averaged £85.21.
