Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1090 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £95 per head and 202.4p per kg to average 166.3p (-8.9p on the week), while 53 prime lambs peaked at £110 and 245.2p to level at 226.3p.
There were also 772 cast sheep forward when all classes were £5 to £10 cheaper on the week with ewes selling to £131 for a pen of Texels and £64 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £73.47. Included in that overall average were 48 rams that peaked at £144.50 for a couple of Texels and levelled at £98.43.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 62 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 235p per kg and an average of 197p (-5p), while 36 prime bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 195p (no change).
In the rough ring 54 beef cows averaged 121p (+1p).
There were also 713 prime hoggs that sold to £98 and 208p to average £77 and 157p (-26p), while 15 prime lambs peaked at £92 and 211.5p to level at £90 and 207p (-13p).
The 348 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for Texels and average £60, while light ewes peaked at £55 for Cheviots and levelled at £35.
The firm also sold 3 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 187.5p and an average of 175.5p (-13.8p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 210.5p and levelled at 189.5p (+8.6p). Thirty-seven prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 211.5p and averaged 170.8p (+1.7p), while 38 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 173.5p and levelled at 135.1p (-0.1p).
In the rough ring 51 beef cows averaged 123.4p (+5.6p) and 137 dairy cows levelled at 92.5p (+4.1p). Seven bulls averaged 110.5p (-9.5p).
There were also 1437 prime hoggs forward that sold to £100 and 223.9p to average 170.8p (-9.7p), while 43 prime lambs peaked at £103.80 and 246p to level at 194.4p (+13.7p).
A small show of 43 cast sheep was topped at £103.50 by Texel ewes.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 25 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 245p and an average of 223.4p (-2.1p), while 3 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 214p and levelled at 200.2p (+1.3p). Twelve prime, B&W bullocks sold to 136.5p and averaged 131.6p (+2.1p).
In the rough ring 20 beef cows averaged 120.1p (+1.9p) and 39 dairy cows levelled at 87.5p (-1.1p).
The firm also sold 1089 prime hoggs to a top of £114.50 and 214.1p to average 171.4p (-15.8p), while 18 prime lambs peaked at £109 and 232.1p to level at 218.9p.
The 259 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £121.50 for a Texel and £59.50 for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at £70.
