Wallets Marts had 96 store cattle forward in Castle Douglas on Monday when heifers sold to a top of £1065 per head and 228p per kg to average £827 and 207p (-4.2p on the fortnight), while bullocks peaked at £1105 and 271.4p to level at £841 and 232p (+8p).

There were also 32 beef-breeding heifers with calves-at-foot that sold to £2400 and averaged £1816, while 51 bulling heifers peaked at £1180 and levelled at £917.

The firm went on to sell 263 prime hoggs in the same venue yesterday to a top of £103 per head and 196p per kg to average 167p (-1.6p on the week), while 6 prime lambs peaked at £100 and levelled at £94 and 184p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 13 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1240 and 220p to average £1144.32 and 208.3p.

In the rough ring 48 beef cows averaged 128.8p and 86 dairy cows levelled at 90.4p. Six bulls averaged 99p.

A larger show of 15 dairy cattle were harder to cash and sold to £1020 for a third-calved Ayrshire cow and averaged £901.
