A new centre record for Blackface ewe hoggs of £2000 each was established at Stirling on Monday for a consignment of 3 from M/s Blackwood, Auldhouseburn. At the end of a slow day's trading, when 8133 breeding sheep went under the hammer the dry BF ewe hoggs averaged £96.54 (-£34.16 on the year).
Dry Scotch Mule ewe hoggs sold to £136 and averaged £110.80 (-£14.27), while dry Texel ewe hoggs peaked at £520 and levelled at £108.69 (-£20.02).
Other averages: Dry Cheviot hoggs £86.81 (-£15.28); Scotch Mule hoggs with lambs-at-foot £163.67 (-£5.61); TexelX hoggs with lambs £152.34 (-£21.90).
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 141 store heifers in Dumfries on Monday to a top of 267.6p per kg and an average of 211.1p (+6.8p on the fortnight), while 140 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 270p and levelled at 222.1p (+7.8p). Thirty-three store, B&W bullocks sold to 138p and averaged 128.7p (-1.5p).
The firm also held its May show and sale of beef-breeding cattle. Top prices and averages: Heifers with bull calves to £2400 and averaged £1775.45 for 34; heifers with heifer calves £2600 and £1891.60 for 25; cows with calves £2200 and £1478.50 for 6; in-calf cows £1340 and £1157.50 for 9; bulling heifers £1460 and £983.78 for 176.
