Wallets Marts held their annual sale of Blackface and Scotch Mule ewe hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday. Topping the trade for Blackfaces at £145 was Glen Farming Co., Gatehouse of Fleet with the overall average for the 750 sold levelling at £103.96 (-£14.18 on the year).

The Scotch Mule section was topped by Garrochtrie, Port Logan with a pen that fetched £130, with the final average levelling at £119.97 (+£2.50) for 222.

The firm also sold 21 store heifers to a top of £1010 per head and 222.9p per kg to average £855 and 193.3p, while 23 store bullocks also peaked at £1010, but at 239.1p per kg, to level at £787 and 207.1p.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 56 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 237p and an average of 208.5p (+8.2p on the week), while 24 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 197p (-3.3p).

In the rough ring 48 beef cows averaged 125p (no change).

There were also 1110 prime lambs that sold to £109 per head and 224p per kg to average £96 and 203p (-1.5p), while 188 prime hoggs averaged 155p.

The 165 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £111 for Texels and average £86, while light ewes peaked at £87 for Cheviots and levelled at £71.

The firm also sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 216.5p and an average of 188p (-9.5p), while 29 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 211.5p and levelled at 192.9p (-1.5p). Eight prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 156.5p and averaged 142.6p (-3.9p). Thirty-three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 207.5p and averaged 182p (-2.5p), while 50 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 145.5p and levelled at 126.3p (-12.3p).

In the rough ring 111 beef cows averaged 124.4p (+5.4p) and 209 dairy cows levelled at 97.4p (+5.4p).

There were also 998 prime lambs that sold to £110.80 and 274.5p to average 193.1p (-5.8p), while 99 prime hoggs peaked at £77 and 160p to level at 146p (-22.1p).

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 29 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 240p and an average of 220.8p (+0.8p), while 5 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 222p and levelled at 201.2p (+3.2p). Fourteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 142p and averaged 129.2p (-0.5p).

In the rough ring 36 beef cows averaged 124.9p (+2.8p) and 31 dairy cows levelled at 91.1p (-3.3p).

The firm also sold 158 prime lambs to a top of £105 and 228.6p to average 211.4p (+4.8p), while 294 prime hoggs peaked at £87.50 and 182.1p to level at 143.6p (-17.6p).

The 327 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £149.50 for a Texel and £88.50 for Blackfaces.
