Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 6 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 226p per kg and an average of 219p, while 3 prime bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 196p. A couple of prime bulls averaged 171p.

In the rough ring 60 beef cows sold to £1100 (158.3p) and averaged 125.7p, while 98 dairy cows peaked at £930 (130.1p) to level at 89.2p. Six bulls sold to £1260 and averaged 105.6p, while 4 clean OTM cattle levelled at 146.2p.

The firm also had a much larger show of 17 dairy cattle forward when heifers sold to a top of £1420 for a Holstein Friesian, while cows peaked at £1250, also for a Holstein Friesian. The final sale average levelled at £1020.

Wallets Marts sold 647 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £91 per head and 203p per kg to average 183.9p (+4.4p on the week).

There were also 114 cast sheep and hoggs forward that met a two-tier trade with over-fat sheep severely discounted, while leaner ewes looked dearer on the week. Ewes sold to £90 for Suffolks and £52 for Blackfaces.
