MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 7 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 228p per kg and an average of 217.4p, while 3 prime bulls peaked at 182p twice and levelled at 180.6p.
In the rough ring 77 beef cows averaged 125.6p (no change on the week) and 95 dairy cows levelled at 90.6p (-2.1p). Six bulls averaged 106.5p.
There were also 147 beef-breeding cattle forward when all classes met a slightly easier trade than at last month's sale.
Top prices and averages: Heifers with calves-at-foot to a top of £2150 and an average of £1622.13 for 75; cows with calves-at-foot £2100 and £1409.35 for 31; bulling heifers £1160 and £992 for 35; bulls to £3000gns for a Simmental and averaged £1697.50 for 6.
Wallets Marts sold 1161 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £95.50 per head and 209.5p per kg to average £74.99 and 184p (-14.5p on the week).
There were also 289 cast sheep forward that met an easier trade than last week's extreme rates with ewes peaking at £110 for Texels and £58.50 for Blackfaces.
