C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 2169 store lambs at their opening sale of the season in Longtown yesterday to average £61.99 (+£10.51 on the year). Top prices on the day were £74 for Suffolk cross Cheviots, £72 Beltex, £65.50 Charollais, £65 Texels and £62.50 for Greyfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 14 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1265 per head and 227p per kg to average £1154.31 and 213.9p, while 5 prime bulls peaked at £1377 and 192p to level at £1193.23 and 175.7p.

In the rough ring 72 beef cows sold to £1420 and 168.8p to average 122.8p, while 111 dairy cows peaked at £990 and 142.4p to level at 90.6p. Nine bulls sold to £1360 and 127.4p to average 102.6p.

A small show of 4 dairy cattle sold to £1680 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1377.

Wallets Marts sold 1544 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £94 per head and 197.4p per kg to average £74.14 and 180.3p (-7.3p on the week).

There were also 231 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £96.50 for Texels and £62.50 for Blackfaces.
