Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 154 store heifers at Ayr on Thursday to a top of £1190 per head and 235.5p per kg to average £857.31 and 205.6p (-3p on the fortnight), while 203 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1320 and 246p to level at £958.84 and 210.3p (-0.4p). One-hundred-and-twenty-one store, B&W bullocks sold to £830 and 170.5p to average £598.22 and 133.4p (-11.9p).
The firm also held its opening sale of store lambs when it sold 1094 to average £57.75 (+£7.14 on the year). Leading prices for selected breeds: Texels £67.80; Suffolks £64.50; Mules £64; BTex £64.
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 3846 prime lambs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £110 per head and 234p per kg to average 191p (-6p on the week but +43p on the corresponding sale last year).
There were also 6057 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £145 for Texels and averaged £73.72 (-£4.86), while light ewes peaked at £70 for Easycare and levelled at £42.68 (-£2.20). Rams sold to £152 for a Texel and averaged £82.18.
