UNITED Auctions had a catalogued entry of 6482 Scotch Mule, Texel cross and Suffolk cross gimmers at Stirling on Saturday. Top prices and averages: Accredited Scotch Mules to £192 and averaged £130.03 (-£24.58 on the year); non-accredited Scotch Mules £152 and £122.27 (+£1.58); Texel crosses £142 and £113.75.
Wallets Marts sold 2944 Scotch Mule gimmers in Castle Douglas on Saturday to a top of £194 for the champion pen from George Allen, Bogside Cottage and an average of £143.13 (+£14.63 on the year).
There were also 1318 store lambs that sold to £68.50 for both Texels and Suffolks, and averaged £55 overall.
The firm went on to sell Scotch Mule ewe lambs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £156 for W Lockhart, Culdoach, while the champion pen from Messrs Shennan, Farden fetched £132. The 8559 sold levelled at £100.97 (+£11.34 on the year).
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 48 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 247p per kg and an average of 222.5p (-3.5p on the week), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 241p and levelled at 214.4p (no change).
In the rough ring 35 beef cows sold to 157p and averaged 128p (+4p).
There were also 1974 prime lambs that sold to £100 per head and 218.6p per kg to average 170.7p (-6p).
The 714 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for both Texels and Suffolks to average £76, while light ewes peaked at £96 for Cheviots and levelled at £55.
The firm also sold 3 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 201.5p and an average of 185.5p (-8.4p), while 8 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 209.5p and levelled at 193.8p (-8.1p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 155.5p and averaged 144p (-3.7p). Seventeen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 219.5p and averaged 192.7p (-1.4p), while 30 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 175.5p and levelled at 143.9p (-3.9p).
In the rough ring 131 beef cows sold to 196.5p and averaged 128.6p (-4.5p), while 175 dairy cows peaked at 152.5p and levelled at 90.2p (-1.5p).
There were also 1589 prime lambs that sold to £96.80 and 247.9p to average 177.7p (+2.9p).
The 384 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for Beltex and average £59.55, while light ewes peaked at £59.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £37.41.
