Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd, had forward 4316 sheep at Ayr on Monday, comprising 2706 prime lambs 1610 cast ewes and tups. Prime lambs sold to a top price of 208.5p perkg for a pen of 47kg Beltex from Wheatfield, Kilmaurs with the overall average being 184.7p (+ 12.4p on the week) This average is 38.3p per kg kg higher than the corresponding sale last year with a larger show of lambs forward.
Cast ewes and tups (1610) were easier on the week. The overall average was £53.94 but this included 789 Blackface Ewes sold. Top price was £123per head for Texel ewes from Holms of Caaf, Dalry. Tups sold to £119 for Suffolks from Holms of Caaf.
C&D Auction Marts Ltd ,Longtown sold 6091 store lambs yesterday (Tuesday).
With several extra buyers from the South and another good show of lambs, all classes again met a very dear trade. Top of £73.50 for Texels from The Crook, Middlebie.
The first sale of 1,426 Cheviot lambs at saw a good trade with averages up £6.28 on the year. Top of £60 for Hill Cheviots from Hindhope (Elliot).
The 1,310 Blackface lambs saw a trade on par with last year. Top of £49.50 from Auchengruith.
Averages; Suffolk £58.00, Texel £57.26, Greyface £56.05, North Country Cheviot £55.09, Charollais £55.05, Cheviot £48.84, Blackface £40.25.
Feeding ewes to £85 for Texels from Crindledykes, which also sold hill Blackface to £59.
Swaledale ewe lambs to £50 from Taylorburn.
