United Auctions held their annual show and sale of suckled calves at Stirling on Monday when 729 heifers sold to 273.1p per kg and averaged 232.1p (-0.6p on the year), while 1093 bullocks peaked at 316.9p and levelled at 251.9p (+4.7p).

The firm also had 4663 store, breeding and feeding sheep forward. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Beltex to £75 and averaged £68.09 (-11p on the week); Suffolks £70 and £64.99 (+£4.03); Texels £71 and £61 (-77p); Mules £65.50 and £55.01 (-£1.48); Cheviots £60 and £44.84 (-£6.69); Blackfaces £54.50 and £43.97 (+£1.08).

Wallets Marts held a sale of beef-breeding cattle in Castle Douglas on Monday. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2150 and averaged £1707.28 for 44; cows with calves £1600 and £1093.75 for 8.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 249p and an average of 238.1p (+1.2p on the week), while 3 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 212p (no comparison). Eight prime, B&W bullocks sold to 153.5p and averaged 141.1p (+3.2p).

In the rough ring 30 beef cows averaged 124.4p (+8.4p) and 39 beef cows levelled at 85.8p (-0.7p). Four bulls averaged 115.5p.

There were also 2601 prime lambs that sold to £98.50 per head and 217.8p per kg to average 169.7p (+3.5p).

The 1132 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £100 for a Beltex and £60 for Blackfaces and average £46.90 overall.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2557 prime lambs at Ayr on Monday to a top of £95 and 200p to average 165.2p (+1p on the week and +28.3p on the corresponding sale last year). The auctioneer reports that the average price per kg was reduced by 890 of the lambs on offer weighing 46kg and over.

There were also 1123 cast sheep forward that included 589 Blackface ewes and averaged £47.26 overall. All classes of ewes were easier on the week and sold to £90 for Texels and £56.50 for Blackfaces.
