Wallets Marts held their annual show and sale of pedigree and commercial Saler cattle in Castle Douglas on Friday and Saturday. Top prices and averages: Bulls to a new UK record price of 11,000gns for the March 2015 born champion from R&K Livesy and averaged £4762.69 (+£608.63 on the year) for 13; pedigree in-calf heifers to 4000gns for Colin McClymont, Cuil and averaged £2653 (+£80.50) for 15; pedigree bulling heifers averaged £1845 (-£18.75) for 7, while 136 commercial heifers levelled at £1268.46 (+£89.26).

The firm went on to sell 131 store heifers in the same venue yesterday to a top of £1135 per head and 215.9p per kg to average £698.17 and 182p, while 89 store bullocks peaked at £1155 and 227.6p to level at £741.18 and 188.4p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2385 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £92 per head and 200p per kg to average 161.1p (-0.5p on the week).

There were also 979 cast sheep forward that proved a lot harder to cash with Blackface ewes £8 to £9 cheaper on the week. Top prices on the day for ewes were £121 for Texels and £49.50 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 54 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 241p and an average of 211.6p (no change), while 23 prime bullocks peaked at 234p and levelled at 211.6p (-4.5p). Five prime bulls sold to 191p and averaged 160.2p.

In the rough ring 104 beef cows sold to 157p and averaged 104p (-10p).

There were also 1691 prime lambs that sold to £95 and 214.6p to average 166p (-5.6p).

The 745 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £89 for Texels and average £74, while light ewes peaked at £73 for Cheviots and levelled at £40.

The firm also sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 213.5p and an average of 188.1p (-10.1p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 191.6p (-6.1p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 173.5p and averaged 171p. Twenty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 229.5p and averaged 187.1p (-9.4p), while 39 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 183.5p and levelled at 140.6p (-9.8p).

In the rough ring 149 beef cows sold to 225.5p and averaged 116.8p (-2.2p), while 260 dairy cows peaked at 183.5p and levelled at 82.7p (-1.1p). Twelve bulls sold to 167.5p and averaged 123.4p (-0.3p).

There were also 2320 prime lambs that sold to £101.80 and 227.3p to average 169.1p (-1.9p).

A small show of 183 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £95.50 for Texels and average £57.02, while light ewes peaked at £67.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £45.08.
