LAWRIE & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 247p per kg and an average of 235p (+4p on the week), while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 215p (+2p). Four prime, B&W bullocks sold to 134p and averaged 125p (-3p).

In the rough ring 38 beef cows averaged 112p (+3p) and 44 dairy cows levelled at 80p (-0.2p). Four bulls averaged 109p.

The firm also sold 1568 prime lambs to a top of £94.50 per head and 220.2p per kg to average 166.4p (-3.8p).

The 694 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £130.50 for a Texel and £50 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 14 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1378.60 per head and 226p per kg to average £1199.18 and 219.3p, while a couple of prime bullocks levelled at £1096.50 and 215p.

In the rough ring 83 beef cows sold to £1360 and 148.6p to average 93.8p, while 151 dairy cows peaked at £890 and 116.3p to level at 83.9p. Eight bulls sold to £940 and 123.7p to average 95.4p, while 8 clean, OTM cattle peaked at £1300 and 185.7p to level at 156.7p.

The firm also held their November show and sale of dairy cattle when the champion animal in the yard was a pedigree Friesian heifer shown by Andrew McKay, Broughton Mains that went on to sell for 1900gns. Top prices and averages: pedigree cows and heifers to 2000gns and averaged £1610 for 12; commercial cows and heifers £1950 and £1409.17 for 12; in-calf Friesian heifers £1080 and £905 for 10; Friesian bulling heifers £710 and £698 for 10, while a Friesian bull fetched £1785.
