WALLETS Marts sold 1794 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas on Tuesday to a top of £85 per head and 212.5p per kg to average £70.97 and 168.3p (-0.9p on the week).

A useful show of 293 cast sheep maintained recent rates with Texel ewes selling to £142 and averaging £72.41, Mule ewes to £80 and averaging £62.94, while Blackface ewes peaked at £60 and levelled at £38.31.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1440 prime hoggs in Newton Stewart yesterday to a top of £90 and 185.1p to average 161.2p.

There were also 279 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £85 for Bluefaced Leicesters and £53 for Blackfaces.

C&D Auction Marts sold 4 prime heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 211.5p per kg and an average of 181.2p.

There were 40 OTM cattle presented in the rough ring when beef cows averaged 108p and dairy cows levelled at 94.2p.

The firm also sold 362 prime hoggs to a top of £88 and 193p to average 172.2p (+9.7p).

The 166 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £108.50 for Texels and average £73.26, while light ewes peaked at £64.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £47.82.
